I have seen quite a few people interested in how to Embed a YouTube video into PowerPoint. Doing this can be a bit tricky but that is what we are here for.

Today’s tutorial will focus on how to Embed a YouTube video to your presentation.

Lets begin!

Go to the Office button located at the top left of the PowerPoint window

Choose PowerPoint Options

Look for the Popular section

In that section look for “Show Developers tab in the Ribbon“

When you have found it, tick that box and hit OK

Notice that now there is a new addition to your PowerPoint Ribbon, The Developer Tab.

Go to the Developer tab

Click the more controls button.

This will open a new window pane. In this window is a list of controls that can be added to the PowerPoint slide. The one we are looking for is called Shockwave Flash Object.

Once you find that option. Hit OK

This will add the Shockwave Flash Object option to the currently PowerPoint slide.

Now there is only one more thing to do and that is to actually add the YouTube video. To do this

Right click the Shockwave Flash Object

Go to Properties.

This will open a Window that allows you to change various setting, however the main ones that you should focus on are

Loop – Set this option to False. The reason for this is if the value remains at True. When the video is completed, it will begin again, continuing in a endless loop until the presenter switches to the next slide.

Playing – Leaving this option as True means that as soon as the slide is launched the embedded YouTube Video will automatically play. If you want to avoid that change the setting to False

Movie – This is where, the link to the YouTube video should be inserted.

Important

*** You must make these changes to the YouTube link or else it will not work!!!****

**http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hChq5drjQl4** – Video created by Maniactive

Delete “watch?”

Replace “=” with “/”

So the new link should change from

to

http://www.youtube.com/v/hChq5drjQl4

Then hit OK

Your slide now has the YouTube video embedded!! ENJOY!!

Today’s Tutorial will show you how to create a Jeopardy game in PowerPoint 2007. This can be used to add some interactivity and a fun spin your presentations.

Lets begin

First you need to create a blank slide with the color background you would like to use.

Now create a table to contain all the necessary information

Go to the Insert tab and select 6×6 table to be the size. This is the “official” size of the jeopardy board, however feel free to adjust as needed.

Next stretch the table so that it fits the PowerPoint slide.

As you can see the table doesn’t match the background, so to give it that jeopardy feel we need to fix this.

Go to the Shape Fill button

Choose the same color of your back ground

Here is a sample of how the the table should look.

Now in each section fill in the necessary information.

At this point you want to create the question slides. On each questions slide there should be 2 text boxes

A question

Amount the question is worth and the category. In this case “History 500“

Go back to the Jeopardy board slide.

Highlight the dollar value

Right Click

Select Hyperlink

This will open a new window.

Go to the Place in This Document section

Select the question slide that you would like to go to when this dollar value is clicked.

For example, I want when the presenter clicks History $500 that the this takes them to the question slide “Who was the only US president not elected Present or Vice president?”

When this is done Hit OK

Now go to that question slide and select the text box with the category and dollar value. In this case “History 500″ . Create a Hyperlink for this text box that when clicked takes you back to the Jeopardy board slide.

The reason for this is when you are on the Jeopardy board slide and click History for $500 it takes you to this question slide. You now need a way to get back to that Jeopardy board slide, and this hyperlink will serve that purpose.

Now for the final step. As we know , during jeopardy when a questions is answered by a contestant that value is removed from the board.

We have to create the illusion that the question has been “removed” from the board. To do this we need to change the color of “Followed Hyperlinks” to match the color of the Jeopardy board.

To do this

Go to the Design Tab

Select Colors

Choose Create New Theme Colors

This opens a new window. Go down to the Hyperlink and Followed Hyperlink colors.

Change Hyperlink to the current color of your font. In my case Yellow

Change Followed Hyper Link to the color of your background. In my case Blue

Hit Save

This means that whenever you select one of the prices on the Jeopardy board. It will become Followed and blend in with the background.

Here is my example. Notice how the History 500 is no longer there…well it is actually there, it just blends with the background.

All done!!!

Sometimes when creating a PowerPoint Presentation, It can be difficult to choose the right timing to give the presentation a natural, organic flow.

Lucky for us , PowerPoint 2007 has a rehearsal feature that allows the presenter to get a feel for how long the presentation is, and sets the slide transition timings accordingly based on this.

The way PowerPoint does this, is by going through the presentation along with us. Each time the mouse is clicked to transition an item or slide, the timing can be recorded. This allows the presenter to get a better feel for how long each slide or item should be screen.

This helps to avoid one of the big mistakes of PowerPoint presentations, spending too much time on one slide and boring the audience because of it!

So lets get right into the tutorial.

Go to the Slide Show tab located in the PowerPoint ribbon

Choose Rehearse Timings

This will begin the PowerPoint presentation but now their will be a Rehearsal dialog box.

As you progress through the presentation this dialog box will keep track of how long each slide is displayed. Which is each time you click the mouse or the Next button located in the Rehearsal dialog box.

Once this is done you will be asked as if you would like to save these timings.

Choosing Yes will assign each slide the timings from the Rehearsal

Choosing No will cancel all the timings and allows you to redo the Rehearsal to perfect the timings.

Enjoy!

PowerPoint 2007 comes with a variety of templates to choose from, but you can also create your template that can be added and access for later use. This is especially useful if you find yourself creating the same style presentation over and over.

Here are the customizations that can be made.

Change background

1. Select Background Styles

In here there are various premade background styles that can be used. If you would like to create a background from scratch..

Gradient Fill, with this option you are able to giving your back ground a more interesting appearance by mixing shades, colors and patterns.

Change Font

Another option you can add to the PowerPoint template is the default font used.

You do this by

Going to the Edit Theme section

This tutorial will teach you how to create you own Countdown timer for PowerPoint 2007

In this section you deal with the position in which you would like the countdown timer to be placed, the font, style and general look of the timer.

For the this tutorial I decided to keep it simple, making it easier to follow

Step 1. Go to the Insert tab

Step 2. Choose Text Box

Step 3. Select the Text Box position

.

Step 4. Go to the Animations Tab

Step 5. Choose Custom Animation

Step 6. Choose a Exit effect

I choose the Box effect but it doesn’t matter what is chosen its personal preference

Step 7. Change the time located in the Automatically After section

The amount of time you want to place here is seconds, so for example in this case I put 1second. What this means is every second the slide will switch to a new slide.

Why is this important? You will see as we continue

The next step is to duplicate the original slide 5 times. The reasoning for this is each slide represents one second of the countdown so 5 – 4- 3- 2- 1.

After you have duplicated the slides, make sure the first slide’s text box has the largest number then change the number in the text box for the other slides so that it counts down.

In this case my first slide text box contains 05 and the following has 04, then 03, and so forth.

After youve done this your countdown timer is done. Go ahead give it a try. You can experiment with other backgrounds, transition, etc to see which best fits you.

In PowerPoint 2007, whenever you add a new text box the text is defaulted to Calibri, font size: 18. This makes it difficult for users that want to add their own style to their presentation because each time you add a text box you will need to manually change the font type and size. This can become tedious.

Is there a way around this? Of course there is!

Insert the text box into the slide and format that text box the way you want ALL future text boxes to be formatted . After you’ve done that follow these steps.

Step 1. Right click the border of the text box
Step 2. This will open a new menu. Choose the Set as Default text box option

The properties of this text box will be applied to all text boxes you make in the future, but will not be applied to text boxes already created.
