I have seen quite a few people interested in how to Embed a YouTube video into PowerPoint. Doing this can be a bit tricky but that is what we are here for.

Today’s tutorial will focus on how to Embed a YouTube video to your presentation.

Lets begin!

Go to the Office button located at the top left of the PowerPoint window

Choose PowerPoint Options

Look for the Popular section

In that section look for “Show Developers tab in the Ribbon“

When you have found it, tick that box and hit OK

Notice that now there is a new addition to your PowerPoint Ribbon, The Developer Tab.

Go to the Developer tab

Click the more controls button.

This will open a new window pane. In this window is a list of controls that can be added to the PowerPoint slide. The one we are looking for is called Shockwave Flash Object.

Once you find that option. Hit OK

This will add the Shockwave Flash Object option to the currently PowerPoint slide.

Now there is only one more thing to do and that is to actually add the YouTube video. To do this

Right click the Shockwave Flash Object

Go to Properties.

This will open a Window that allows you to change various setting, however the main ones that you should focus on are

Loop – Set this option to False. The reason for this is if the value remains at True. When the video is completed, it will begin again, continuing in a endless loop until the presenter switches to the next slide.

Playing – Leaving this option as True means that as soon as the slide is launched the embedded YouTube Video will automatically play. If you want to avoid that change the setting to False

Movie – This is where, the link to the YouTube video should be inserted.

Important

*** You must make these changes to the YouTube link or else it will not work!!!****

**http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hChq5drjQl4** – Video created by Maniactive

Delete “watch?”

Replace “=” with “/”

So the new link should change from

to

http://www.youtube.com/v/hChq5drjQl4

Then hit OK

Your slide now has the YouTube video embedded!! ENJOY!!

When creating a PowerPoint presentation it is crucial to save your progress and final result. This tutorial will teach you how to do just that.

To save you presentation in the standard format, simply go to the Office Button located at the top left, then choose Save.

However to save the presentation in other formats, instead of going to save, go to Save as

There are multiple formats that the presentation can be saved as.

PowerPoint Presentation

This is the default format, the presentation will be saved as a PowerPoint 2007 file.

PowerPoint Show

In this format when the PowerPoint file is launched the presentation will automatically start.

PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation

This means that the file will be saved in an older format, increasing the presentations compatibility with older version of PowerPoint.

PDF or XPS

This format is entirely different from PowerPoint meaning that when the save file is launched, it will be launched in a PDF/XPS viewer. The reason for saving the presentation in this format, is to ensure your printed or viewed file keeps the original formatting.

Today’s Tutorial will show you how to create a Jeopardy game in PowerPoint 2007. This can be used to add some interactivity and a fun spin your presentations.

Lets begin

First you need to create a blank slide with the color background you would like to use.

Now create a table to contain all the necessary information

Go to the Insert tab and select 6×6 table to be the size. This is the “official” size of the jeopardy board, however feel free to adjust as needed.

Next stretch the table so that it fits the PowerPoint slide.

As you can see the table doesn’t match the background, so to give it that jeopardy feel we need to fix this.

Go to the Shape Fill button

Choose the same color of your back ground

Here is a sample of how the the table should look.

Now in each section fill in the necessary information.

At this point you want to create the question slides. On each questions slide there should be 2 text boxes

A question

Amount the question is worth and the category. In this case “History 500“

Go back to the Jeopardy board slide.

Highlight the dollar value

Right Click

Select Hyperlink

This will open a new window.

Go to the Place in This Document section

Select the question slide that you would like to go to when this dollar value is clicked.

For example, I want when the presenter clicks History $500 that the this takes them to the question slide “Who was the only US president not elected Present or Vice president?”

When this is done Hit OK

Now go to that question slide and select the text box with the category and dollar value. In this case “History 500″ . Create a Hyperlink for this text box that when clicked takes you back to the Jeopardy board slide.

The reason for this is when you are on the Jeopardy board slide and click History for $500 it takes you to this question slide. You now need a way to get back to that Jeopardy board slide, and this hyperlink will serve that purpose.

Now for the final step. As we know , during jeopardy when a questions is answered by a contestant that value is removed from the board.

We have to create the illusion that the question has been “removed” from the board. To do this we need to change the color of “Followed Hyperlinks” to match the color of the Jeopardy board.

To do this

Go to the Design Tab

Select Colors

Choose Create New Theme Colors

This opens a new window. Go down to the Hyperlink and Followed Hyperlink colors.

Change Hyperlink to the current color of your font. In my case Yellow

Change Followed Hyper Link to the color of your background. In my case Blue

Hit Save

This means that whenever you select one of the prices on the Jeopardy board. It will become Followed and blend in with the background.

Here is my example. Notice how the History 500 is no longer there…well it is actually there, it just blends with the background.

All done!!!

A Venn diagram is used to show multiple groups of sets and the possible relations with one another. This type of information can be important when demonstrating information to viewers via your presentation. So today we will focus on how to create a Venn diagram in PowerPoint 2007.

Go to the Insert Tab located in Microsoft Office Ribbon then choose the SmartArt option

This will open a new window that allows you to choose a variety of SmartArt graphics.

Go to the Relationship section and scroll down until you see the Basic Venn diagram image. Click the image and hit OK

This will add a Venn diagram to the current PowerPoint slide. The content of the Venn diagram can be edited in the window on the left side. The size and positioning of the Diagram can also be altered here .

Adding another bullet point will increase the amount of Venn Diagram circles

Removing a bullet point will remove a Venn diagram circle.

This is pretty much all you need to know to create a Venn Diagram. If you were interested in changing the visual appearance this section allows the user to change the look of the diagram and even preview what the result would look like.

Done!

There are times when the background graphic can become a issue for a presenter. During the presentation the background graphics may distract the audience or even during printing, may cause some difficulty seeing the slides content.

This PowerPoint 2007 tutorial will show you how to remove the background graphics so that these kind of problems can be avoided.

For those that are not sure what the background graphic is. I have highlighted the graphic in the presentation below.

There are 2 ways to remove this. The first method is to

Right click anywhere on the slide

Choose the Format Background option at the bottom of the drop down menu

This will cause a new window pane to appear called Format Background

This tutorial will focus on the PowerPoint Toolbar, but same steps can be applied to other Microsoft Suite programs.

This toolbar can also be customized to suit the needs of the user, i.e adding and removing commands. To do this, simply click the downward arrow. The drop down menu will contain the following commands.

Adding a Quick Access Command

To add a command to the Quick Access Toolbar you would simply click its name. This will cause a check mark to appear to the left confirming that the command is currently added.

Removing a Quick Access Command

Similar to adding a command you would uncheck the command by clicking its name, this will remove the command from the Quick Access Toolbar.
