When creating a PowerPoint presentation it is crucial to save your progress and final result. This tutorial will teach you how to do just that.

To save you presentation in the standard format, simply go to the Office Button located at the top left, then choose Save.

However to save the presentation in other formats, instead of going to save, go to Save as

There are multiple formats that the presentation can be saved as.

PowerPoint Presentation

This is the default format, the presentation will be saved as a PowerPoint 2007 file.

PowerPoint Show

In this format when the PowerPoint file is launched the presentation will automatically start.

PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation

This means that the file will be saved in an older format, increasing the presentations compatibility with older version of PowerPoint.

PDF or XPS

This format is entirely different from PowerPoint meaning that when the save file is launched, it will be launched in a PDF/XPS viewer. The reason for saving the presentation in this format, is to ensure your printed or viewed file keeps the original formatting.

Hyperlink are used in presentations when the presenter wants to connect a slide, email address, webpage or file by adding a link in the slide. This link can be done via a picture, graph, text or object. In today’s PowerPoint tutorial however we will be focused on hyperlinks done through text and how to change the color.

Lets begin.

Below shows the current color of the hyperlink in my presentation. In this case the link feels a bit dark and may be difficult for the audience to see. So lets change it to a brighter color so it stands out.

To change this

Go to the Design Tab located in the Microsoft Office Ribbon

Choose the Colors button

This will open a drop down menu.

Click the Create New Theme Colors option

A new window pane will appear. It is in this window that the color of the hyperlink can be changed.

Scroll down to the Hyperlink option and change the color to the color of your choice. Then hit Save.

Here is a example of the new Hyperlink color. It stands out a more than the previous color.

Done! Let me know if you have any other questions

Sometimes when creating a PowerPoint Presentation, It can be difficult to choose the right timing to give the presentation a natural, organic flow.

Lucky for us , PowerPoint 2007 has a rehearsal feature that allows the presenter to get a feel for how long the presentation is, and sets the slide transition timings accordingly based on this.

The way PowerPoint does this, is by going through the presentation along with us. Each time the mouse is clicked to transition an item or slide, the timing can be recorded. This allows the presenter to get a better feel for how long each slide or item should be screen.

This helps to avoid one of the big mistakes of PowerPoint presentations, spending too much time on one slide and boring the audience because of it!

So lets get right into the tutorial.

Go to the Slide Show tab located in the PowerPoint ribbon

Choose Rehearse Timings

This will begin the PowerPoint presentation but now their will be a Rehearsal dialog box.

As you progress through the presentation this dialog box will keep track of how long each slide is displayed. Which is each time you click the mouse or the Next button located in the Rehearsal dialog box.

Once this is done you will be asked as if you would like to save these timings.

Choosing Yes will assign each slide the timings from the Rehearsal

Choosing No will cancel all the timings and allows you to redo the Rehearsal to perfect the timings.

Enjoy!

PowerPoint 2007 comes with a variety of templates to choose from, but you can also create your template that can be added and access for later use. This is especially useful if you find yourself creating the same style presentation over and over.

Follow these steps to create you very own PowerPoint 2007 Template

Step 1. Go to the View tab
Step 2. Click Slide Master

This is the area in which the slide master (template) is created. This section allows you to customize the template in various of way such as Background style, Font, Theme, and Slide Orientation.

Here are the customizations that can be made.

Change background

1. Select Background Styles

In here there are various premade background styles that can be used. If you would like to create a background from scratch..

2. Choose Format Background

This will open a new window that allows more flexibility in the color scheme.

Solid Fill, With this option which ever color you choose the background color will be that color with no difference in shades or texture.

Gradient Fill, with this option you are able to giving your back ground a more interesting appearance by mixing shades, colors and patterns.

Picture or Texture Fill, This options allows you to add a image as the background or pattern as the background. Examples of these Patterns can be seen below.

Change Font

Another option you can add to the PowerPoint template is the default font used.

You do this by

Going to the Edit Theme section

Choosing Fonts.

There are a lot of aspects of the template that can be changed to meet your style and preference. In the image above are some of those options.

PowerPoint provides users with the ability to save their presentations as a Webpage. This allows you to upload you presentation to a web page so others can view it on the web.

A case in which this would be useful is an instructor that would like the presentation lecture to be available to his/her students.

To do this follow the steps below

Go Microsoft office button

Choose the Save As option

This will open a new in window.

Your first step is to name the presentation followed by choosing the file type

There are 2 options for saving the presentation as a web page.

1. Single File Web Page – By using this format, all sounds, images and animations will be embedded in the web page, and the presentation will be saved as a .MHT file extension.

2. Web Page – Sounds, images and animations will be saved in a separate folder that also must be uploaded to your website. If this folder isn’t uploaded the presentation will not have full functionality. In this case the file extension will be .HTM

The Page title will be the title of your presentation on the web page, so chose a page title that is related to the presentation.

After you have chosen a page title, hit Save and your done!
